Penwynn · Occasions · Remembering a loved one

Help them know the person you remember.

The garden they cared for. The songs they sang. The little things that made everyone laugh.

When someone you love is no longer here, there can be so much you want a child to know about them. Penwynn helps you turn those memories into a personalized illustrated book you can read together.

Start with the little things.

You do not need a complete life story or perfectly written memories.

Tell us what you remember: what they enjoyed, how they spent their days, what they looked like, and the moments you would like to share.

Perhaps Grandpa always saved the ripest strawberries for you. Perhaps your mum sang while she cooked. Perhaps someone had a way of making an ordinary afternoon feel like an adventure.

Those details give you a place to begin.

A watercolour illustration of a girl leaning on her mother's shoulder on a sofa at night while her mother holds a sleeping baby and her father sits beside them
An illustration from Room for Two Stars, one of our example books — the pictures in yours are drawn for your family.

A book for the child who never got to meet them.

A baby born after a grandparent passed away. A young child whose memories are still forming. A family wanting to keep someone's stories part of everyday life.

Your book can introduce the person through the things they loved and the memories you choose to share. Tell us whether you want to mention their death or keep the focus on their life, and review the wording before you buy.

What could your book be about?

An afternoon in Grandpa's garden

Share the places he loved, the things he grew, and the small traditions you remember.

The things Grandma taught us

Collect her kindness, her favourite activities, and the moments that stayed with your family.

When your dad was little

Tell a child about their father's childhood, using the stories your family remembers.

These are starting ideas, not customer stories. Your book begins with your own people and memories.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us about the person.

Describe their appearance, personality, and the memories you want to include.

  2. 2

    Shape the story.

Choose a reading age and language. Review the story and ask for changes so it reflects what you want to share.

  3. 3

    Review the illustrated pages.

Check the details, wording, and pictures before deciding whether to order a printed hardcover.

Questions about your memory book

Do I need to upload a photograph?

No. Penwynn creates illustrated characters from written descriptions. The pictures are storybook interpretations, not exact portraits.

What if I only remember a few things?

Start with those. A favourite place, a familiar habit, or one afternoon together can provide the starting point for a story.

Does the book have to explain death?

No. You can focus on introducing the person and sharing their life. Tell us what you would like the story to include or leave out.

Can I check the story before buying?

Yes. Review the story and illustrated pages before purchasing. Check names, memories, and any dialogue carefully, and request changes wherever something does not reflect what you intended.

There are stories about them worth telling.

Start with one you would like your child to know.
