Who you are buying from

0981308 BC Ltd, a company registered in British Columbia, Canada, trading as penwynn.com. These terms apply when you use this site or buy a book.

What you are buying

A hardcover picture book, made to order, whose story and illustrations are generated from what you describe. 36 or 48 interior pages, 8 × 8 inches square or 8 × 11 inches portrait.

The illustrations and the story are produced by artificial intelligence from your description. They are new images, not photographs and not drawings of any real person. A character will resemble the description you give rather than a particular face.

Making a book is free; you approve before you pay

You see the characters, read the whole story, and view every illustrated page before there is anything to pay. If you do not like it, close the tab and nothing is charged.

Price, tax and delivery

• 36-page hardcover: $49 USD; each additional copy of the same book $29.
• 48-page hardcover: $59 USD; each additional copy of the same book $34.
• Delivery is included in the price. Sales tax is added at checkout where it applies.
• We sell to Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom only.

Cancellations and refunds

A personalised book cannot be cancelled once it has gone to print. It is made for one person and cannot be sold to anyone else. Under UK consumer law, goods made to a consumer's specification are excluded from the usual 14-day right to change your mind, and the same applies here for customers everywhere.

Before printing begins, ask and we will cancel and refund you in full. After that we cannot.

If the book arrives damaged, misprinted, or is not the book you approved, tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will print and send a replacement, free of charge. Send a photograph of the problem — that is usually all it takes, and you do not need to return the damaged copy.

A replacement is the remedy we offer, rather than a refund. A book is made for one person and cannot be resold, so a returned copy is simply destroyed; reprinting puts the book you wanted in your hands, which a refund does not.

This does not affect rights you have by law. If the law where you live entitles you to a refund for faulty goods, you keep that right — ask us and we will honour it.

What you may put in a book

You are responsible for what you ask us to print. Please do not ask for:

• Anything about a real person who would object — get permission for anyone you name.
• Anything hateful, sexual, violent, or unsuitable for a children's book.
• Someone else's copyrighted characters, or brands and trade marks.
• Contact details, web addresses, or anything identifying where a child can be found.

We check submissions automatically and by eye, and may refuse or cancel an order. If we cancel before printing, you are refunded in full.

Who owns what

Your book is yours. You may keep it, give it, photograph it and read it aloud, including publicly. You may not resell copies of it or use its illustrations commercially.

The words you write remain yours; you give us permission to use them to make your book. The underlying style, templates and software remain ours. We never use a customer's book as an example: the books shown on this site are demonstration books, made by us for that purpose, about people who are not customers.

Characters you do not own

A book can be about anybody — your family, your friends, your dog, yourself, or a character out of copyright such as Don Quixote or Alice. What it cannot be about is a character somebody else owns: Elsa, Spider-Man, Harry Potter, Bluey and the rest belong to the companies that made them, and we have no licence to print them.

By ordering, you confirm that the people and characters you described are yours to use — your own family, your own invention, or out of copyright. We refuse requests we recognise, but we cannot recognise everything, and you are responsible for what you ask for. If we notice before printing we will tell you and refund in full; if a rights holder contacts us afterwards we will stop selling the book and may have to tell them who ordered it.

This is not us being cautious on your behalf. We write the words and draw the pictures and post the parcel, so an infringing book is one we made, not one we merely carried.

What we do not promise

Colours on a printed page differ slightly from a screen. Generated illustrations are not perfectly consistent, and characters vary a little between pages the way any illustrated book does. We show you every page before you buy precisely so you can judge this for yourself.

We do not guarantee the site is always available. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid for the book. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Governing law

The laws of British Columbia, Canada, and the courts there. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove protections you have under your own country's law.
